Obituary

Robert G. Bob Kuhlman, 73, of Mitchell, died December 6, 2004 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be in the South Spencer Cemetery at Spencer. Bob was born May 11, 1931, at Spencer, SD to Elmer and Neva (Lindekugel) Kuhlman. He was raised in Spencer, SD and graduated from Spencer High School in 1949. He enrolled at South Dakota State University in 1950. He married Beverly Jean Grove on October 13, 1951, at Spencer, SD. While attending college, he enlisted in the SD Air National Guard of Sioux Falls in 1952. He was activated and assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City for two years. Upon completion of his military service he returned to SDSU where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts in 1955. Upon completion of college, he worked for Lindekugel Construction as a superintendent until 1964. He formed the company, Commercial Asphalt that year and owned and operated it until 1992. During that time, he also was a partner in the ownership, development and operation of Middle Border Estates Mobile Home Park. He became sole owner in 1985 and managed it until this year. Rob was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and snow skier. He enjoyed traveling, spending time at his cabin in the Black Hills and being with family and friends. Bob was a board member of various church councils and was a founding member of Resurrection Lutheran Church of Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Mitchell; daughter, Rae Lynne Simon and husband Dean and three granddaughters, all of Mitchell; and son Todd Kuhlman and wife, Nancy and four grandsons, all of Nampa, Idaho; and brother, Douglas Kuhlman and wife, Cora, Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his in-laws, Carl and Maude Grove.
