Robert Greenway, age 54, of Mitchell, formerly of Mount Vernon died, Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, in Mitchell, with burial to follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel, in Mitchell, with a 7 PM prayer service. Robert Greenway was born October 17, 1953 to Giles and Lillian (Olson) Greenway in Mitchell, SD. He attended school and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1971. While in high school he was involved in football, track, baseball and basketball. After his schooling, Robert farmed with his father on the family farm. On April 27, 1974, Robert was united in marriage with Charlene Hohn in Mt. Vernon, SD. He continued to farm near Mt. Vernon. Charlene preceded Robert in death on July, 14, 2004. On July, 28, 2006, Robert was united in marriage with Dawn Harmes in Mitchell. The couple made their home in Mitchell. Robert continued farming until his death. Robert spent many years as a softball player, coach, and umpire. He was also a member of several organizations such as the Davison County Pork Council, Beulah Township Board, and the DWU Team Makers. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling. He also established the Char Greenway Bowling Tournament Foundation in November of 2004. Grateful for having shared his life with are his wife, Dawn Greenway, Mitchell, SD; five children, Clinton (Jill) Greenway, Mitchell, SD, Amy (Cory) Goembel, Sioux Falls, SD, Justin (Silver) Long, Washington, D.C., Jordan Long, Mitchell, SD and Haley Long, Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren, Serenity Goembel and Madison Long; his parents, Giles and Lillian Greenway, Mitchell, SD; a brother Ron (Mary Lou) Greenway, Mitchell, SD; his in-laws, Steve (Eileen) Harmes, Mitchell, SD and Alvin Hohn, Mt. Vernon, SD; three brothers-in-law, Scott (Kristin) Harmes, Richfield, MN, LeRon (Cathie) Hohn, Mitchell, SD, Jeff (Lisa) Hohn, Riverton, WY; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane (Kenny) Giblin, Mitchell, SD, Cherie (Kevin) Vanorny, Mitchell, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Robert's name.
