Robert (Bun) Dwayne Colvin, age 74, of Alexandria, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 8, at the Will Funeral Chapel, with burial in Greenhill Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
He was born in Mitchell, SD on October 30, 1936 to Robert Lee and Florence (Glynn) Colvin. He was raised on a farm north of White Lake, SD. As a boy he attended Patten Rural School. On May 8th, 1954 he married Marlene Hewitt in Mitchell SD. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy January 1955 serving boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Waukegan, Ill. He later served on the battleship U.S. Macon touring Cuba and Guantanamo Bay. He also served on the battleship U.S.S. Iowa, with a Midshipmans Mid Atlantic Cruise. He received his honorable discharge in December, 1957.
He attended trade school and worked at the Mitchell Body Shop. In 1968 he and Marlene purchased an acreage southeast of Mitchell. Together they operated a breeding, training, and racing stable for 50 years, they raced mainly at the Midwest Racetracks. He was a member of the Minnesota Thoroughbred Owners Assoc. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 0261 of Ethan, SD.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, brother Melvin Mike, Hill City, and brother Lee Jr, Lead, a special nephew Dr. William Hemminger, wife Martha and son Bart, Louisville, KY, and many other Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, and sisters Loretta and Betty.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Buns name.
