Obituary

Robert Elmer Amberg age 68, of Wessington Springs died Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center in Wessington Springs, SD. A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the American Legion in Wessington Springs, SD. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Troy Cemetery, Troy, SD.

Robert was born February 24, 1951 in Milbank, SD to Elmer and Bertha (Korstjens) Amberg. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City, SD. Robert attended school in Big Stone City and Milbank. On January 23, 1976, he married his soul mate, Nancy Evjen.

Robert drove milk truck for his dad, then dairy farmed. In 1999 moved to Kimball, SD and worked for a Pheasant Preserve for a year, then moved to Wessington Springs working on a farm, then worked for S&M Enterprises, a job he loved!

Robert was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City, had lots of fun playing softball, he was an honorary member of the Big Stone American Legion, President of the Whetstone Valley Rodeo Association. Robert loved raising horses, attending trail rides and socializing with friends. His greatest joy were his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Nancy of Wessington Springs, daughters Jennifer (Larry Nielson) Boerger of Tulare, SD, Robin (Jer Koepke) Amberg of Stockholm, SD, Monica (Jess) Wolff of Aberdeen, SD and Melina (Roy) Grohs of Watertown, SD; brothers Arnold (Mildred) Amberg of Ortonville, MN and Duane (Debbie) Amberg of Milbank, SD; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Joyce Evjen of Strandburg, SD; brother-in-law's Bryan Evjen of Strandburg, SD and Willis Hanson of Wilmot, SD; sister's-in-law Virginia Evjen of Willmar, MN and Lucille (Cary) Manns of Lawrence, KS;  many nieces, nephews and treasured friends in the Big Stone and Wessington Springs area.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dianne Lopes and Mary Hanson, father-in-law Lloyd Evjen, brother-in-law Lowell Evjen and granddaughter Makenzie Pies.
