Rob Marchand, age 59, of Mitchell, SD passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with a wake service beginning at 7:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Rob Marchand, son of Bob and Edith "Toots" Marchand was born July 24, 1955 in Webster City, IA. At the age of five, Rob moved to Yankton, SD where he attended Yankton Public Schools. While at Yankton High School, Rob excelled in golf and basketball. After graduating from Yankton High School in 1974, Rob attended Yankton College where he was a member of the Greyhound golf team. He later transferred to the University of South Dakota where he graduated with a degree in Park and Recreation Administration. Rob was united in marriage with Mary Helgeland on August 11, 1979 in Yankton, SD. Rob and Mary moved to Mitchell in 1980. At the time of his passing, Rob was the Director of the Mitchell Recreation Center. Rob was a proud father and grandfather and cherished spending time with his daughter, Kate, son Jay, Jay's wife Karmyn, and grandson Dax. Rob spent countless hours traveling, supporting and coaching his children in their many activities. Rob also valued his extended Mitchell family. Rob touched countless lives through his work at the Recreation Center, coaching high school golf, participating with the You'll Never Walk Alone/Band of Brothers organization and his support of Mitchell High School activities. Rob received many honors in his lifetime. Some of which he was most proud was his induction into the Yankton College Hall of Fame as a Greyhound Great, KORN Radio/Tom Maxwell 2013-2014 Coach of the Year and Mitchell Booster Club 2013-2014 Fan of the Year, which he was named with his wife, Mary. When Rob was diagnosed with cancer five years ago he was determined to live every day to its fullest. Even in the toughest of days, Rob still chose to fight, live and love. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Mary Marchand; son Jay (Karmyn) Marchand and their son Dax, Sioux Falls; daughter Kate Marchand Sioux Falls; his mother Toots Marchand and sister Pam Marchand, both of Yankton. Rob is also survived by his in-laws, Pat Helgeland, Sioux Falls, Jeff and Deanna Branaugh, Yankton and their daughters Leah and Molly Branaugh, and Dave and Patty Helgeland, Brookings and their children Maggie and Matt Helgeland. Rob was preceded in death by his father, Bob Marchand and his in-laws, Les and Irma Helgeland.
