Richard Dean Miller, age 69, of Mitchell, died Wednesday November 19, 2008 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday November 25 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at the American Legion Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Monday November 24 at Will Funeral Chapel with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Richard Dean Miller was born to Fred and Esther (Craft) Miller on May 21, 1939, in Mitchell, SD. He attended country schools in Sanborn County for eight years. He then attended Notre Dame High School in Mitchell, graduating in 1957. He attended Northwest College of Commerce Business School in Huron, SD from 1959-1961. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964, stationed at Fort Hood, TX, where he was a business clerk and morning reports clerk.
After his discharge, he was employed in maintenance at the Corn Palace for three and a half years, DWU for nine years, Mitchell School for six years and at Toshiba for fifteen years, retiring in 2004.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he was an usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight for two years. He also was a member of the American Legion.
Richard is survived by numerous cousins, Tim McEntee and wife Delores of Mitchell, Tom EcEntee and wife Roberta of Mitchell, Sandra Siegenthaler and husband Richard of Wichita, KS, Bill Barker of Sioux Falls, Bob Barker and wife Molly of Huron, Kathy Sawvell and husband Darwyn of Huron, Jacque Snedeker and husband Ron of Kirkland, WA, Cindy Guffin and husband Tom of Chandler, AZ, Dave Welch and wife Ellen of Sioux Falls and Wallace Welch and wife Ann 'Babe' Welch of Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1965 and his mother in 2005.
