Richard Charles Goldammer, son of Louis and Martha (Olawsky) Goldammer, was born December 3, 1943. He grew up on a farm near Hillside, SD until the sixth grade. He then moved to Mitchell and later graduated from Mitchell High School. Richard met the love of his life and was united in marriage with Patricia Ann Wolf on August 4, 1963 at St. Martins Lutheran Church in Alexandria, SD. The couple made their home in Rock Rapids, IA.
Richard entered the US Army on December 5, 1966 in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived in New Jersey and Arizona where Richard was stationed. He was given orders to serve in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on July 12, 1969. After his discharge the couple lived in Yankton for a short time before moving to Sioux Falls. They then moved back to Mitchell where they began their family. Richard served as a telephone communications technician for 36 1/2 years, retiring in February of 2006.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, gardening, yard work and woodworking. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings (although always heartbreaking) and attending live games of these two teams when time allowed. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his beloved wife, Patty, grandchildren events and friends.
Richard was a member of First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD; the Mitchell Barbershop Chorus, the American Legion, the Mitchell Lion's Club and the James Valley Community Center.
