Richard Dick Forst, age 59, of Mitchell died May 5, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at First Lutheran Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Dick Ray Forst, son of Walter and Beulah (Nielsen) Forst was born June 19, 1945 in Mitchell, SD. He lived on the family farms in the Lane and Woonsocket areas. Dick attended Lane Consolidated school until the 5th grade, when the family moved to Mitchell in 1956. He attended Mitchell Public School and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1963. He lettered in football and track and also played American Legion baseball. Dick graduated from Northern State University in 1968 and was a member of the weight lifting and gymnastic teams. He enlisted in the US Army after college and served in the 113th Military Intelligence Group. Dick was honorably discharged in April of 1970. Dick was united in marriage with Marilyn Miller on August 6, 1978 in Mitchell, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell. Dick worked for the Post Office in Mitchell and Huron retiring after 30 years of service in 2003. He also owned and operated Forst Lawn Service, along with his son, Nick, for over 30 years. He loved the outdoors, camping, attending Mitchell Kernel sporting events and especially loved riding his Harley in the Black Hills. Dick loved animals, as was noted by the number of cats he took care of at the farm. Many trips in his trucks were accompanied by one of the family dogs. Dick was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, the Disabled American Veterans, First Lutheran Church and a yearly sponsor of the Mitchell Stampede Rodeo. Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Nick Forst and his wife, Jill, Mitchell, SD; his daughter, Ashley Forst, Mitchell, SD; his sister, Dianne Fiala, Hasting, MN; his former wife, Marilyn Forst, Mitchell, SD; three nieces of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Dicks name.
