Obituary

Richard Doyle age 72, of Alexandria, SD died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the church with a rosary and prayer service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary of Mercy Cemetery. Richard Francis Doyle was born April 9, 1939 to Edward and Lucille (Ditter) Doyle in Farmer, SD. He lived on a farm between Farmer and Alexandria, attended St. Peter's Elementary School and graduated from Farmer High School in 1957. He then attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD. In 1959 he began working at Rozum Motor Company and shortly after united in marriage with Marilyn Miller on June 20, 1961. To this union, six children were born. Richard continued working at Rozums until 1969 when he took a job at Hormels. He and Marilyn lived in Mitchell before moving to a farm south of Alexandria in 1976. Following the closing of Hormels, Richard began farming full-time in 1979. Richard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria and also served many terms as a member of the Knights of Columbus in Mitchell. Using his unique ability to fix anything and everything, Richard spent much of his spare time repairing farm equipment, cars, and household items. He and Marilyn also enjoyed watching their grandchildren compete in various activities, earning 2007 Hanson Fans of the Year. Having been blessed enough to share his life with many, Richard is survived by six children, Mike (Tammy) Doyle, Tyndall, SD, Randy (Mary) Doyle, Alexandria, SD, Kelly (Curt) Hart, Alexandria, SD, Sean (Cindy Minder) Doyle, Springfield, SD, Brett (Becky) Doyle, Alexandria, SD, Chris (Michelle) Doyle, Alexandria, SD; 13 grandchildren; four brothers, James (Nancy) Doyle, Davenport, IA, Timothy (Sharon) Doyle, Alexandria, SD, Patrick (Paulette) Doyle, Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin (Karen) Doyle, Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Walter Canney, Lincoln, NE; sister Colleen (Ken) Ring, Lincoln, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, brother Kenneth, and sister Louella Canney.
