Randy Wermers, age 57, of Mitchell, died Sunday January 22, 2012 at his home after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday January 25, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at the American Legion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a scripture service beginning at 7:00 PM. Randy Paul Wermers, son of Alvin and Janette (Metzger) Wermers, was born April 6, 1954 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1972. Randy served in the South Dakota National Guard from 1971 to 1980. He was united in marriage with Christine Albertz. From this marriage three children were born. Randy worked at Dakota Pork for 24 years and then went to work at Advance Auto until his health forced his retirement. Randy was a life time member of the American Legion where he has served as a past commander. He was also a member of the American Legion 40 et 8 and served as a past Chef de Gar. Randy loved fishing, camping and hunting. Most of all he loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Christine Wermers, Mitchell, SD; two children, Mat (Dava) Wermers, Mitchell, SD, Tracie Wermers, Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Taylor, Mitchell, SD, Payten, Tony and Myles, Sioux Falls, SD, Bryton, Sioux Falls, SD, Dru, Mitchell, SD; his parents, Alvin and Janette Wermers, Mitchell, SD; a sister, Cindee (Richard) Westendorf, Arvada, CO; his in-laws, Milton "Bud" and Rheta Albertz, Mitchell, SD. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Christopher in 2010 and a brother in law Dave Albertz.
