Obituary

Randy Lee Schmitz Sr., age 65, of Jackson, MS formerly of Rockford, IL and Mitchell, SD died Friday, August 5, 2016 at home in Jackson, MS. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday, August 12, 2016 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service at Will Funeral Chapel.

Randy Lee Schmitz Sr., son of Francis and Violet (Ball) Schmitz, was born December 7, 1950 in Alliance, NE. He attended schools in NE, SD and ID. Randy then stayed with his father and Jackie (Francis's second wife) in Montana where he worked in his father's gas station and garage.

Randy returned back to the Mitchell area and was united in marriage with Beverly Kurtenbach for 15 years. They had two children, Tina and Randall. Randy joined the US Marines in 1972 and was stationed at Paris Island, Okinawa, Japan and Viet Nam. After his honorable discharge in 1976, he returned to Rockford, IL. Randy met his special friend of 25 years Carol Morse. He was employed at Rockford Power Train before moving to Greenville, MS.

In 2010 he made his home in Jackson, MS where he loved spending time working in his backyard with his many flowers, fruit trees and gardening. Randy lived there until his death.

Most grateful for having shared his life are his soulmate and special friend, Linda Adams and her son, Anthony, Jackson, MS; three children, Tina (Clay) Herrmann, Roscoe, IL, Randall Schmitz Jr., Rockford, IL, James (Marsha) Adams, Carthage, SD; four grandchildren, Carrie (Chris) Dumelle, Allie and Julie Herrmann and Lucas Schmitz; three great grandchildren; a brother, Joey Stickley; five sisters, Cindy Gonzales, Cherie Jordan, Doreen Sheperd, Charlotte Martinez and Gloria Hargen; many nieces, nephews, cousins and  friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, nephew and his brother, Floyd Thompson.
