Ralph Johnson, 69, of Mitchell died Tuesday September 28, 2004 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Servicemens Memorial Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel with prayer service beginning at 8 PM. Ralph E. Johnson, son of Elbert and Stella (Brooks) Johnson, was born August 3, 1935 in Tazewell, TN. He was raised in a log house and attended school in Tazewell. Ralph received his diploma from Tazewell High School. Following his schooling he enlisted in the US Army on September 25, 1953 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on August 7, 1957. Ralph re-enlisted in the US Air Force on August 8, 1957. Ralph was united in marriage with Margaret Metz on February 13, 1961 in Mitchell, SD. He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force on August 7, 1961. The couple returned to Mitchell where Ralph worked at various jobs. He took early retirement due to health reasons. Ralph was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Margaret Johnson, Mitchell, SD; three children, Sonya Johnson, Mitchell, SD, Brett Johnson, Mitchell, SD, Lisa Johnson, Brandon, SD; four grandchildren, Lucas Johnson, Quincy Brech, Katie Brech, Sarah Johnson; two sisters, Billie Overton, Tazewell, TN and Mildred Campbell and her husband, Glenn, Tazewell, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde Massengill and Al Smith Johnson; three sisters, Ruth Johnson, Winnie Johnson and Gencie Upton.
