Obituary

Phyllis Dorothy Moe, age 92, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Alexandria, SD) died Friday, February 15, 2019 at Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Phyllis Dorothy (Carlson) Moe, daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Thompson) Carlson, was born May 25, 1926 in Beulah Township, Hanson County, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at the Alexandria United Methodist Church and remained a member there until transferring her membership to the Mitchell United Methodist Church. She attended Beulah #2 School and graduated from Alexandria High School. Phyllis continued her education at Dakota Wesleyan University. She later taught country school.

Phyllis was united in marriage with Roy Moe on June 25, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria, SD. Following their marriage, the couple farmed until retirement in Fairview Township where they raised their four children. Phyllis was a member of the Extension and Fairview Community Clubs, Moose Lodge, Elks and the Red Hat Club. She worked for 15 years as the Hanson County Farmers Union Camp Director. Phyllis enjoyed traveling and worked for Farmers Union Tours and Roy and Wilma Tours.

Phyllis and her husband also enjoyed many years of traveling with their motorhome throughout the United States. In 2000, Roy and Phyllis moved into Mitchell where they formed strong friendships with their new neighbors.

Roy passed away in September of 2003. Phyllis remained in their home until December 2014, when she moved into Countryside Assisted Living. In March 2015, Phyllis moved to the Inn on Westport in Sioux Falls and later moved to Good Samaritan Luther Manor Nursing Home in June 2017.

She and her friends enjoyed taking in the area events at the Corn Palace, concerts and theatre plays.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Janice (Greg) Nolting, of Marshall, MN, Jean (Dan) Wrather, of Columbus, MS, Patricia (Jim) McIntosh, of Wanship, UT, David (LeAnn) Moe, of Alexandria, SD; nine grandchildren, Erin Moline, Jeffrey Moline, Christopher Moline, Brian Moline, Natalie Blakney, Kyle Wrather, McKayla Moe, Ashley Moe, Chet Moe; three great grandchildren, Willow Moline, Byron Wrather and Shelley Wrather; brother-in-law, Robert Moe and sisters-in-law, Wilma Putzier and Norma Moe.

She was preceded in death by husband, her parents and a brother, Raymond Carlson; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Maxine Carlson, Merlin and Ethel Williams, Everett and Frances Pitts, Roy Putzier and Earl and Marge Moe.

Memorials may be directed to the Mitchell United Methodist Church, Good Samaritan Luther Manor or the Alzheimer's Association.
