Philip Rieger, age 66, of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday April 11, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial and military rites at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Philip Rieger, son of August and Emma (Gienger) Rieger, was born December 6, 1951 in Pierre, SD. He grew up in Pierre and attended school there. Phil entered the US Army on June 3, 1969 and was honorably discharged on January 15, 1972. He returned to Pierre and was employed for a cable tv company in Pierre. Phil attended Southern State College in Springfield, SD. He then moved to Mitchell, SD and began his employment with Bussmus Construction. Phil was united in marriage with Karen Watkins on November 9, 1974 in Pierre, SD. He retired in April of 2016 after 43 years of employment with Bussmus Construction.

In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, woodworking and mentoring neighborhood children.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Karen Rieger, Mitchell, SD; two sons, Jason (Katie) Rieger, Sioux Falls, SD, Heath Rieger, Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren, Beau and Alexa Rieger, both of Sioux Falls, SD; four brothers, Pastor Stan (Susan) Rieger, Elburn, IL, Edward Rieger and his fiancé (Mary Gobin), Ft. Pierre, SD, Wayne Rieger, Appleton, WI, Brian "Rocky" (Brenda) Rieger, Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Vernice (Craig) Malone, Brookings, SD; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathleen Rieger; and a brother in infancy, Michael.
