Peggy L. Roy, age 71, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Huron, SD) died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial in the Wessington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Peggy Lou Brown, daughter of Chester and Dolores (Kanaly) Brown, was born August 5, 1945 in Miller, SD. She attended school in Wessington, Lake Preston and Huron, SD. Peggy then attended General Beadle State College in Madison, SD and received a degree in teaching.
Peggy began her teaching career in 1967 in Thompson, IA as a business teacher. She was united in marriage with Ron Roy on August 18, 1968 in Huron, SD. Peggy continued to teach in Thompson until 1974 then the couple moved to Hitchcock, SD where she taught for one year. In 1975 the couple moved to Huron, SD. Peggy was employed as a secretary at the Violet Tschetter Nursing Home, in 1982 she was promoted to administrator of the nursing home. She continued to serve as the nursing home administrator until her retirement in 2008. In 2010, Peggy moved to Mitchell to be closer to her family and in February of 2011 entered the Avera Brady Health and Rehab.
Peggy was a very competitive person and loved to play cards and board games. She also enjoyed reading, watching TV (especially crime shows and game shows) and on occasions gambling. Peggy loved to share treats and gifts with her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a very independent person who wanted to do things her way.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, David (Jacki) Roy, Mitchell, SD, Delores (Jason Swindler) Roy, Mitchell, SD, Dan (Robynn) Roy, Brandon, SD; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers, Kelly (Sharon) Brown, Charlotte, NC, Kirk (Cindy) Brown, Odessa, MO; Jack (Glenda) Brown, Rapid City, SD; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Abby
