Owen Weinberg, age 61, of Mt. Vernon, died Friday at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel, with the family present from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Owen was born on September 1, 1943 at Spencer in McCook County to Albert and Violet (Nopens) Weinberg. He was raised in the Fulton and Alexandria area and attended school in Alexandria. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1960. He worked on the farm and cut ice off of Lake Mitchell in the wintertime. He married Marlys Marsden on May 9, 1960 at Pipestone, Minnesota. He worked for Sellands Trucking from 1962 to 1979. He then became an independent trucker until 2002. He loved fishing, camping and his grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Rusty Weinberg and wife, Joyce, of Mt. Vernon, SD; daughter Rachel Johns and husband, Steven, of Virginia Beach, VA; his mother Violet Weinberg, of Mitchell; brother Garry Weinberg and wife, Marilyn, of Mt. Vernon, SD and two grandchildren DeAnne Weinberg and Matthew Johns. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002, and father Albert.
