Orval Patzlaff age 94, of Mitchell died Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Thursday evening at Trinity Lutheran Church with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Orval Harry Patzlaff was born September 25, 1924 in rural Farmer, SD to Frank and Dora (Rodenberg) Patzlaff. Orval graduated Farmer High School in 1942 and began his farming career. He married Barbara Maendl on May 1, 1949 in Bridgewater, SD and made their home on the farm in rural Farmer, SD. They farmed there until moving to Mitchell in 1988. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Spencer, SD where he sat on the church council and Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell. He also sat on the Fairview Twp. Board in Hanson County. Orval loved to hunt and fish through the years but his greatest joy was his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and planning the next Christmas together.

Grateful for sharing his life are his daughters, Ione (James) Klinger of Mitchell and Mary (John) Geidel of Mitchell; grandchildren Sarah (Mike) Deakins, Aaron (Abby) Klinger, Megan Geidel all of Mitchell and Michael (Katie Juhnke) Geidel of Chamberlain, SD; great-grandchildren Olivia Olson of Aberdeen, SD, Jackson Deakins, James Klinger and Brynlee Lewis all of Mitchell.

Preceding him in death are his wife Barbara; brothers Therman, Claude, Kenneth, Jessie, Vernon and Eugene; sisters Edna Patzlaff and Florence Bertelson and his parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
