Orval John King Jr. age 87, of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital ER. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitatin will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Orval John King Jr., son of Orval John Sr. and Carol Ellen (McVicker) King, was born July 30, 1925 in Hampton, IA. He graduated from Clear Lake Iowa High School in May of 1943. Orval then entered the US Navy and served on the Destroyer USS Knapp in the South Pacific during World War II. He earned 10 campaign stars and six area ribbons. Orval was on occupation in Japan from August to December in 1945. Upon his discharge he relocated to Des Moines, IA where he attended the American Institute of Business. Orval became associated with the Des Moines Building Loan and Savings Association, later with Des Moines Saving and Loan. He was promoted to Assistant Vice-President and Assistant Loan Department Manager. From 1961 to 1980 Orval was associated with NorthWest Federal Savings and Loan in Spencer, IA and Mitchell Home Savings and Loan in Mitchell, SD as the Loan Department Manager. In 1981, Orval relocated to Mason City, IA and operated NW Central Iowa Appraisal Inc. until his retirement in September of 1993. Orval was a professional designated appraiser and a licensed real estate broker. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Anna Mae (Kraft) King, Mitchell, SD; three children, Gail (Jack) Colwell, Mitchell, SD, Margaret (Tony) Medina, Goodyear, AZ, Jon Alan (Sandy) King, Orange, TX; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; a brother, William Robert (Jo Anne) King, Oak Ridge, TN. Orval was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Jane King-Sperry.
