Obituary

Olinda Fuerst age 83, of Tripp, SD died Wednesday May 11, 2016 at the Tripp Good Samaritan Home in Tripp. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at First American Lutheran Church in Tripp. Burial will be in Gracehill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 Friday at the First American Lutheran Church in Tripp with a 7:00 PM prayer service.

Olinda (Schultz) Fuerst was born on August 4, 1932, on a farm near Menno, SD, to Christian and Lydia (Holzwarth) Schultz.  Olinda was named after the little sister that Christian had left behind in Russia.  She was baptized by Rev. William Huenemann in the Reformed faith at Johannestahl Church west of Freeman, SD and confirmed on June 29, 1947 by Rev. William Korn at Kassel Church near Menno, SD.

Olinda's family moved around a lot.  She attended grade school at various country schools through 8th grade.  They finally settled on a farm 6 miles East of Tripp.

Olinda met the love of her life, Clinton Fuerst, at Hinks Café in Tripp, SD in August of 1952 and married him on April 24, 1955 at Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp.  They lived on the farm with Clinton's parents for 7 months, at which time his parents moved to Tripp.  Clinton & Olinda stayed on the farm until their retirement in 1990.  At this time, Clinton bought Olinda her dream house and they moved to Tripp, SD.  Olinda lived there until March 2, 2016 when she entered the Tripp Good Samaritan Center.  She died there under Hospice care on May 11, 2016.

Olinda was a hard worker and worked side-by-side with Clinton on the farm.  She was a 4-H leader for many years and a member of the First American Lutheran Church in Tripp, SD and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.   Retirement gave her more time for her favorite hobbies:  painting ceramics, gardening, embroidering, and quilting.  She was well known for her beautiful quilts, beautiful irises, her delicious egg noodles and pies.  She was a kind and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared her life are Clinton, her husband of 61 years; 6 children: Carol (Doug) Adams of Ethan, SD, Dennis (Jodi) Fuerst of Tripp, SD, Joyce (Kevin) Callies of Sioux Falls, SD, Douglas (Lisa) Fuerst of Mitchell, SD, Robert (Tammy) Fuerst of Mitchell, SD, Rachel (Matt Bolster) Fuerst of Ames, IA; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother: Gideon Schultz of Yankton, SD; and one sister, Loretta Kirschenman of Menno, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ted Schultz and Nathanael Schultz.

Memorials may be directed to the First American Lutheran Church of Tripp or the Good Samaritan Home in Tripp.
