Nicholas Patrick Van Wassenhove, age 42, of Chicago, ILL., formerly of Mitchell, died Friday, February 1, 2013 at North Western Memorial Hospital , Chicago, ILL. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, February 11, 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Burial took place in Chicago, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Nick Van Wassenhove, son of Bernard and Mary Ann (Draminski) Van Wassenhove, was born November 30, 1970 in Peoria, ILL. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1989 and then later a graduate of the Culinary Hospitality Institute of Chicago. Nick worked as a chef for various Chicago restaurants and spent time as a personal chef on tour with the group Rascal Flats. On November 6, 1999 he was united in marriage with Chelle Rohm and to this union a son, Carson was born. The couple later divorced. Survivors include his son Carson, Chicago, IL; his parents, Bernard and Mary Ann Van Wassenhove, Mitchell, SD; a brother, Christopher (Bobbi Jo) Van Wassenhove, Sioux Falls; a sister, Elizabeth Van Wassenhove and her fiancé, Kevin Kent, Sioux Falls; four nephews, Ian, Gabe, Tristin and Trey, all of Sioux Falls, SD; a niece, Ava, Sioux Falls, SD and Chelle Van Wassenhove, Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Peter and Anna Van Wassenhove, Frank and Marie Draminski. An Educational Trust has been established for Carson to which memorials will be directed.
