Neil James Martin, age 86, of Mitchell, died October 2, 2006 at the Avera Brady Assisted Living. Memorial services and burial will be held at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO, on Thursday, October 12. Neil was born July 20, 1920 in Sioux Falls, SD to Samuel and Mayne (Johnson) Martin. He was raised in Sioux Falls and attended school there, graduating from Washington High School. He worked for Wilson Storage and Transfer after graduation. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1942, and served during WW II until 1945, in the Pacific area. Following his honorable discharge as a Sergeant, he returned to South Dakota and worked in the Sioux Falls and Mitchell areas. Neil married Olive Evelyn Vaughn on October 9, 1948, in Yankton, South Dakota. He worked for International Harvester Co. in Aberdeen, SD and then went to work for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and retired in 1975 after twenty eight and a half years service as a Property Management Officer and Auditor. Neil belonged to the Aberdeen Masonic Bodies for over 50 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. He was a member of the AARP and Mitchell Senior Center. He is survived by several nieces, nephews and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive; his parents, and brothers, Robert and Duane.
