Obituary

Nadean M. Matthews, age 93, of Mitchell died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Marys Episcopal Church with burial in Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Nadean M. Schirmer, daughter of Fred and Grace (Vaughn) Schirmer, was born April 26, 1915 in Mitchell, SD. She attended school in Mitchell, graduating from Mitchell High School in 1933. Nadean then attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, SD. She was employed as a bookkeeper and office manager for the Equitable Life Assurance Society, Farm Mortgage Department in Sioux Falls for nine years. In 1942, Nadean was married to Walter Matthews of Boston, MA. She returned to Mitchell and worked in the office of the Mitchell Produce and in 1847 went to work for Baron Brothers Ready to Wear Store as a bookkeeper and office manager. Nadean also took care of rentals for the Baron Bros Real Estate. When Barons Ready to Wear Store closed she began working for McLeods Printing and Office Supply in the bookkeeping department. Nadean retired in 1980 but continued to take care of the Baron Bros Realty rentals until 1993. The real estate properties were sold three times until it was purchased by a local company. She was a member of St. Marys Episcopal Church, served on the altar guild and served as chairperson for 10 years. Nadean was also a member of ECW and served as Vice President and President, Business and Professional Womens Club and Credit Womens Breakfast Club. She was an active member of Senior Citizens and volunteered at RSVP. Grateful for having shared her life are her twin daughters, Marie (Donald) Hanson, Alexandria, SD, Mary Grace Nutter, Mitchell, SD; three granddaughters, Donna (Brad) Jamison, Mitchell, SD, Barbara Gean (Ron) Gaeth, Fremont, NE, Karla Neaton, Watertown, MN; six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Roy Nutter. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Marys Episcopal Elevator Fund.
