Mitch Heckenlaible, age 83, of Mitchell, SD died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Avera McKennan Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Resurrection Lutheran Church with burial at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Mitch Heckenlaible, son of Arthur and Ida (Gramm) Heckenlaible, was born May 8, 1931 in Highmore, SD. He grew up and received his education in Highmore, SD. Mitch entered the US Air Force and served as a supply clerk. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in February 1962 after ten years in the service. Mitch was employed at Western States Wholesale for 32 years. He was united in marriage with Nancy Kapsch on December 9, 1965 in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell, SD then Pierre, SD for ten years and returning to Mitchell in 1981. In his retirement, Mitch was employed at Mueller Lumber for 12 years. He was a charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, where Mitch served on the Mission Task Force, Property Committee and Congregation Board. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Nancy Heckenlaible, Mitchell, SD; his children, Mick (Connie) Heckenlaible, Ft. Pierre, SD and their children Jordan (Shelby) Heckenlaible, and Brandon Heckenlaible, Jim (Lisa) Heckenlaible, Mitchell, SD, and their children Dezarae' McGuire and Trey Heckenlaible, Lori (Don) Everson, Mitchell, SD, and their children Sami Everson and Riley Everson, Sandra (David) Boone, Colorado, Karen Brown, Rapid City, SD; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Darold (Grace) Heckenlaible, Wentworth, SD; his mother-in-law, Gen Kapsch, Mitchell, SD; sister-in-law, Sharon (Jerry) McNary, Mitchell, SD; brothers-in-law, Larry Kapsch, Fargo, ND, Doug (Julie) Kapsch, Spearfish, SD; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delvin Heckenlaible; a half- brother, Marvin Gramm; his father-in-law, Clarence Kapsch; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Kapsch Jr. In lieu of flowers memorials to donor's choice.
