Milton "Bud" Albertz, age 83, of Mitchell, SD died Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Resurrection Lutheran Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at Resurrection Lutheran Church. Milton "Bud" Albertz, son of Chris and Minna (Goetsch) Albertz, was born August 15, 1928 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up and attended school in Mitchell, graduating from Mitchell High School. After his schooling, Bud entered the US Navy on May 28, 1946 and served on the USS William R. Rush as a radio service technician. He was honorably discharged on June 20, 1947 and returned to Mitchell. On October 30, 1948 he was united in marriage with Rhetha Spinks at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Bud began his career with NorthWestern Public Service in Mitchell assigned to the Gas Company. He retired from NorthWestern Public Service on January 1, 1989 after 41 years of service with the company. He was a charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and served with the stage hand union for the Corn Palace for 25 years. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and fishing. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Rhetha Albertz, Mitchell, SD; three children, Christine Wermers, Mitchell, SD, Peggy Heckel and her husband, Vaughn, Spearfish, SD, Brad Albertz and his wife, Virginia, Humboldt, IA; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Joe Albertz; two grandsons, Christopher Wermers and Nicholas Albertz; his parents; a son-in-law, Randy Wermers; and a sister, Phyllis Ostrander.
