Obituary

Mildred K. Soladay, 98, of Mitchell, died February 21, 2005 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 25 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Fulton. Mildred was born November 6, 1906 at Sterling, Illinois to Norman P. and Martha B. (Finch) Dyson. The family resided in Morrison, Illinois from 1907 to 1916 when they moved to Hanson County, South Dakota. Mildred graduated from Fulton High School and later from Dakota Wesleyan University with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. She was united in marriage with Glen A. Soladay in 1929 and lived in Fulton from 1929 to 1982. Seventeen winters were spent in Pharr, Texas. Mildred was employed at the Fulton State Bank from 1925 to 1949. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fulton, and later, the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. She was a member of the Home Demonstrations Clubs of Hanson County and served as Treasurer for the State Demonstrations Clubs. For many years, she was Treasurer of the Fulton Graceland Cemetery and of the Fulton Independent School District. While wintering in Texas she was a member of the United Methodist Womens Organizations and a member of the Upper Valley Art League of McAllen, Texas. In 1974, she compiled the book Hanson Heritage, a history of the county in which she spent most of her life. Two nephews, Robert and Beverly Soladay, Albuquerque, NM and Glenn Doc and Lois Soladay of Fulton, SD survive her along with two Dyson cousins in Pennsylvania and one in Illinois, plus numerous Finch cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, her parents, and by her brother, Thomas Dyson in 2002.
