Michael P. Thompson, age 53, of Letcher, SD died Friday June 10, 2005 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at St. Scholasticas Catholic Cemetery. Mike P. Thompson son of Keith and Melvina (Hoffman) Thompson, was born May 3, 1952 in Mitchell, SD. He moved with is family to Casper, WY. After his mothers death when Mike was 10 months old, the family moved to Letcher, SD to live with their grandparents. Mike grew up and attended school in Letcher graduating from Letcher High School in 1971. After his schooling he moved to North Dakota and was employed as a welder on missile sites. Mike then returned to Letcher and was employed for a time at the ABC Enterprises. For several years Mike traveled around the United States building concrete grain elevators. Mike then was employed with Rail Road Builders doing maintenance on railroad tracks through out the country. Mike was united in marriage with Christine Diede in Storla, SD. The couple both continued their employment with Rail Road Builders. Mike later returned to Letcher and worked on welding jobs in the area. Mike was then united in marriage with Kathleen Peterson in Letcher, SD. He continued to live in the Letcher area. Mike enjoyed targeting shooting and reloading shells. Grateful for having shared his life are his four children, Michelle, Rapid City, SD, Kari Aulner and her husband, Eric, Alexandria, SD, Kris Peterson, Mitchell, SD, Kelli Peterson, Mitchell, SD; one great granddaughter, Shay Peterson; a sister, Rory Cundy, Letcher, SD; his grandmother, Mary Van Laecken, Mitchell, SD; two nephews, Keith and Kent Cundy; one aunt; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandparents; maternal grandfather; one aunt; three uncles; and one cousin.
