Michael Eric Hjellum, age 19 of Ethan, died Monday, January 28, 2008 at his home in Ethan. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 1 at the Ethan School Gymnasium with public visitation beginning one hour prior to services at the gym. A memorial fund in his name has been established at Cor Trust Bank in Mitchell. Mike Hjellum, son of Curtis and Lisa (Phillips) Hjellum, was born in Chula Vista, CA on October 30, 1988. As a young child he moved with his family to Ethan, SD. Mike attended school in Ethan and graduated from Ethan High School in 2007. While in school he was involved in football, basketball, track and softball. Mike was currently attending Mitchell Technical Institute enrolled in the Telecommunications Program. Mike loved music and the New York Yankees. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends. Survivors include his mother, Lisa Hjellum, Ethan, SD; his father, Curtis (Wilma) Hjellum, Peoria, IL; a brother, Wayne Hjellum, Ethan, SD; a sister, Kaleena Phillips and her fianc, Scott, Kaiser, Mitchell, SD; and a niece, Elisabeth Kaiser, Mitchell, SD. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Buck.
