Michael (Mike) was born July 10, 1955 in Parkston, SD to Lawrence and Bernice (Gerlach) Bialas. He was baptized and made his Confirmation into his faith on May 10, 1970 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended Tobin #11 grade school in rural Ethan and graduated from Parkston High School. Mike then went on to Mitchell Technical College to study mechanics.
Mike married his childhood neighbor and high school sweetheart, Carol Zirpel on October 21, 1977. To this union four children were born; Christen, Matthew, Emily, and Mandy. Early on Mike farmed with his dad and raised hogs. During those years Mike enjoyed tinkering on cars, playing softball, golf, bowling, and even got pretty good in the martial arts. After leaving the farm Mike took on various jobs over the years until he found his true passion…. the hog equipment industry. As far as we know he covered most of the five state area buying and selling used hog equipment. But if you knew Mike, what he was up too and where he all went, was often a mystery. During these years he met a lot of interesting people and made a lot of new friends. He also had a very unusual way of keeping track of his contacts and inventory which kept the spiral notebook industry alive.
That last couple years Mike was battling the complications of diabetes and then last fall he suffered a stroke while on an equipment run to Minnesota. Sadly this was his last run as he was never able to recover from all the complications that ensued.
Mike loved good food, sweets and teasing his nieces and nephews!
