Metha L. Schamber, age 88, of Mitchell, died December 22, 2006, at the Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, January 4, at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at 10:30 AM Friday, January 5, at the Mizpah Cemetery at Plankinton. Metha was born on August 29, 1918 in Mellette County, SD to Joseph and Magdelina Fuerst. She married Albert R. Schamber in May, 1943 at White River, SD. After their marriage, they lived for several years on a ranch near Murdo. They moved to a dairy farm on the southeast edge of Mitchell and raised their five boys. In 1967, they moved to Plankinton and in 1981, they moved back to Mitchell. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She is survived by four sons: Marvin, of Olympia, WA; David of Hooper, Utah; LeRoy, of Ogden, Utah, and Alvin, of Lakewood, WA; three grandchildren, four grandchildren; a brother, Lewis Fuerst, Fort Meade, SD and two sisters: Erna Laird and Thelma Pierce both of Rapid City. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1992, a son, Gary, two brothers, and one sister.
