Melvin "Mel" E. Hirsch age 80 of Mitchell died Friday April 24, 2015 at Firesteel Health Care center under hospice. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be 3 to5 PM Sunday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Friedens Reformed Cemetery in Tripp, SD. Melvin E. Hirsch was born November 20, 1934 at Tripp, SD in Hutchinson County to Reinhold and Beatha (Herr) Hirsch. He was baptized on Feb. 7, 1935, was confirmed on Apr. 10, 1949 the Tripp Reformed Church. He grew up in Hutchinson County and attended rural country school Pathfinder #76 through the eighth grade. He was a lifelong farmer and sold seed corn, helped various people with their farming as well as doing custom corn shelling. After a severe heart attack in Sept. of 2008 he entered Firesteel Health Care in Feb. of 2009. He had been on Hospice care five times prior to this one. He loved fishing, playing pool, playing cards and painting. Grateful for sharing his life are brothers Kenneth (Irene) Hirsch of Yankton, SD, Maynard Hirsch of Mitchell, SD; sister Betty Bender of Tripp, SD; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Jerry Bender and sister-in-law Audrey Hirsch.
