Maxine Ethel Laikola, age 90 of Mitchell, died Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Prairie Crossings Assisted Living Center in Mitchell. Memorial services will be planned for a future date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

Maxine was born on July 31, 1918 in Holland, MN to Walter and Hilda (Carstensen) Brieholz. She was united in marriage to Dr. L. A. Laikola on February 23, 1950 in Sioux Falls, SD. They resided in Adrian, MN for many years. Her husband Les, who preceded her in death in 1994, was a family physician in Adrian for many years.

Maxine resided at Prairie Crossings Assisted Living Center in Mitchell for the last year and a half.

She is survived by her daughters Penny (Stephen) Gilles of Mount Vernon, SD and Judi Holloway of Aurora, CO; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
