Obituary

Maurine Wagner, age 93, of Mitchell died Saturday March 5, 2005 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday March 10, 2005 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a scripture service beginning at 7:00 PM. Maurine Wagner, daughter of Harry and Alice (Lang) Durst, was born in Davison County on April 25, 1911. She grew up in the Mitchell area before moving with her family to a farm in Iowa. The family later moved to a farm in North Dakota and then to Fedora, SD. After her brother was struck by lightning Maurine moved to Mitchell, SD to be with him as he recovered. While in Mitchell Maurine met her future husband Joseph C. Wagner. They were united in marriage on April 11, 1930 in Canistota, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell where Maurine was a homemaker and raised their children. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Altar Society at the church and the local extension club. Maurine loved to grow flowers, collect antiques and quilting. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Maurine was known for her letter writing which she did to keep in touch with family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are her five children, Jean Martino and her husband, Vic, Gustine, CA, James Wagner and his wife, Teresa, Gustine, CA, Shirley Harnisch and her husband, David, Sioux Falls, SD, Patricia Uriarte and her husband, Tony, Pensacola, FL, Jane Goldammer and her husband, Mike, Mitchell, SD; a son-in-law, Alex Yovan, Roxbury, CT; 21 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; four brothers, Edward Durst and his wife, Beverly, Sioux Falls, SD, Harry Durst Jr. and his wife, Grace, Mitchell, SD, Don Durst and his wife, Millie, Douglas, WY, Frank Durst, Mitchell, SD; a sister, Dorothy Swanson, Rapid City, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Wagner on February 12, 1995; a daughter, Carroll in 1976; one sister, Ruth Toland; three brothers, Wilbur and twin brothers, Bud and Bob.
