Obituary

Maurice Edward Jamison, 92, passed away on October 4, 2018 at the Rapid City Hospice House.

Maurice was born on July 1, 1926 to Harland and Silva (Pence) Jamison in Letcher, SD.  He graduated from Letcher High School in 1944.  On December 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Harper.  They had two daughters together, Sandy and Jackie.  His first wife, Dorothy preceded him in 1973.

Maurice worked for Burns Lumber Company from 1946-1975, then owned Jamison-Mueller Lumber Company until 1981.

Maurice didn't have hobbies-he didn't golf in the summer or ski in the winter, BUT he loved to sing, as a young man on his dad's tractor, then joined a Barbershop Quartet until his 70's.  Maurice was a proud Mason since 1949, as well as a Shriner since 1975.

On December 29, 1983 Maurice and Rose Piklapp were united in marriage.  They worked together building Future Homes Inc., designing and building custom homes, which was his dream come true.  He then started building Motels, expanding over a 9-state region.  They worked together until their retirement in 1998, when they moved to the Black Hills.

Maurice never really retired though, doing consulting work and even working at a casino until he reached the age of 90.  Due to failing health, he at last had to start "slowing down."

He was survived by his wife, Rose; daughter, Jackie Olson and step-daughter, Trish (Henry) Guerrero; sister, Gretchen (Perry) Strombeck and brother, Harley (Sharon) Jamison; Grandchildren, Jamie (Kelly) Martinson, Dominique Lewis, Brittany (John) McBeth, Travis Tschetter, and Abby Guerrero; great grandchildren, Max, Dexter, Greyson, Allysandra, and Isabella; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harland and Silva; wife, Dorothy; brothers, Bob and Bill; Daughter, Sandy; Stepson, Mark; and two sons-in-law, Jim and Charlie.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 starting at 11:00am at Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont, SD.  A Masonic and memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 11 at 11:00 am (CST) at Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, SD.  Burial at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.

Memorials may be directed to El Riad Shriners.  Online condolences may be signed at kirkfuneralhome.com
