Obituary

Mary Thiry, 81, of White Lake, SD passed away Saturday January 31, 2009 of cancer at the Aurora Brule Nursing Home in White Lake. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church, White Lake, SD with Fr. Jerome Ranek and Msgr. Steve Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday February 2, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m. with prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

Mary Elizabeth (Hettinger) Thiry was born August 15, 1927 in rural White Lake to John and Susan (Hoffman) Hettinger. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. Willibrords Catholic Church at Robey. She attended White Lake schools graduating in1946. After high school she completed cosmetology school in Watertown.
In 1951 she married Albert Thiry at St. Willibrords Catholic Church at Robey rural White Lake. They moved to the Thiry home place where they resided in rural White Lake. Mary helped Albert with the cattle and farm work. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden, and with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She continued to live on the farm until her illness.
Grateful for having shared her life is her husband Albert; her eight children: Jim Thiry (Linda)of White Lake; Steve Thiry (Brenda) of Mitchell; Tom Thiry (Janice) of White Lake; Doug Thiry (Deb) of White Lake; Marlene Haines (Bruce) of Mitchell; Lori Hauge of Sioux Falls; Donna Swanson (Kim) of Rapid City; and Karen Michaels (Dean) of Gilbert AZ. She had 17 grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild; one sister Marcella Korthals of Fruitland ID; sister-in-law Lucille Hettinger of Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Alfred, Marvin, and John Hettinger; sisters-in-law Petronella Hettinger, Carol Hettinger, Darlene Tripp; brothers-in-law John Tripp and Mason Korthals.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be directed towards cancer care.
