Mary Margaret Scharffenberg, age 91, of Mitchell, SD died Friday, March 14, 2008 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at St. Martins Cemetery in Emery, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Mary Margaret Olinger, daughter of Edward and Mary (Schiltz) Olinger, was born in Hanson County on May 23, 1916. She lived all of her life in the Bridgewater, SD and Emery, SD area. Mary was united in marriage with Ernest Scharffenberg on August 16, 1940 in Emery, SD. The couple made their home in Bridgewater until 1986 when they moved to Meadow Lawn Plaza in Mitchell, SD. She spent all of her married life being a homemaker and taking care of her husband and children. Mary was an avid basketball fan and loved to watch games at home. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Jean (George) Conroy, Mitchell, SD, Linda (Bob) Moore, Marshalltown, IA; two sons, Roger (Jan) Scharffenberg, Sioux Falls, SD, Randy Scharffenberg, Yankton, SD; two grandchildren, Jeff (Jo Ellen) Hanzlik, Mason City, IA, Michael Hanzlik, Minneapolis, MN; two brothers, Wilfred (Irene) Olinger, Albert Lea, MN, Ray (Helen) Olinger, Mississippi; three sisters, Rosella Tammen, Bridgewater, SD, Irma Helgeland, Yankton, SD, Sister Dorothy Olinger, Yankton, SD; two sisters-in-law, Esther Scharffenberg, Bridgewater, SD, Thyra Scharffenberg, Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, on March 29, 1988; her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Anthony Olinger; and a sister, Lenora Olinger.
