Mary Grace Nutter, age 65, of Mitchell, SD died Friday June 12, 2009 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital ER. Graveside services will 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 10 to 12:30 PM Tuesday at The Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 12:30 PM.
Mary Grace (Matthews) Nutter, daughter of Walter and Nadean (Shermer) Matthews, was born September 2, 1943 in Mitchell, SD. She attended school in Mitchell and graduated in 1961. After high school, she went on to become a dental assistant where she also served as vice president of the South Dakota Dental Assistants Association. In the summer of 1963, she went to Europe for six weeks with a group of women from all over the country.
Mary Grace was united in marriage with Roy Preston Nutter on August 18, 1968 in Mitchell, SD. To this union a daughter was born, Karla. After her husbands death, Mary Grace went on to be the secretary of the Congregational Church in Mitchell. She was a very active member at the church.
She was also president of the Food Pantry over the last years. Living at Meadowlawn Plaza she helped serve lunch, joined the Bible study group and played cards with fellow residents. Mary Grace was also a part of Projects Linus, helping make quilts to go to sick children in area hospitals. She was deep in her faith and her loyalty to friends and family. Mary Grace will be missed greatly.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Karla (Tom) Neaton; two granddaughters, Isabelle and Mikayla; and a sister, Marie Hansen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her mother, Nadean Matthews and her grandparents.
