Mary Ellen (Wilson) Malde age 93 passed away January 10, 2015 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 17, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Mitchell, SD with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Will Funeral Chapel. She was born March 30, 1921, to Sylvester and Alma (Riley) Wilson and lived in Davison County her entire life. After attending grade school in Prosper Township, she attended Mitchell High School graduating in 1939 and Notre Dame Academy graduating in 1942. She worked in housekeeping at Methodist hospital to repay an earlier medical bill before she taught at the French School in Prosper Township where she had attended as a child. She married Edwin Malde March 18, 1944. They lived on a farm in Lisbon Township. Four children were born to this union. In 1962, the family moved to Mitchell where she taught Head Start from 1966 to the mid-70's. She was a Sunday school teacher and member of First United Methodist Church. She also worked with Edwin at DWU in housekeeping and in the Tiger Lair snack stand. In 1990 they moved to an apartment, and Edwin passed away February 3, 2001. She moved to Avera Brady in August of 2008. Her legacy will be her love for children and her penchant for writing poetry. Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Carol (Larry) Hasz of Mitchell, Dave (Jann) Malde of Sioux Falls, Julie (Bruce) Fritzemeier and Lynette Ellefson (Joe Feldhaus) of Mitchell; 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law Irene Wilson, Natalie Wilson and Dorothy Malde all of Mitchell and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, her parents, and her siblings Kenneth Wilson, Everett (Marjorie) Wilson, Clarion Wilson and Frances (Robert) Green. The family requests memorial in lieu of flowers.
