Mary Jane Grosz, age 89, of Mitchell, SD died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Committal services for Mary and Dan Grosz, who preceded her in death, will be at the American Legion Cemetery. Mary Jane Grosz, daughter of Miles and Myrtle (Iverson) Parmenter, was born December 2, 1924 in Hickson, ND. She was the second of eight children. Mary attended school in Christine, ND and later enlisted in the WAVES on March 22, 1945. She served during World War II and was honorably discharged on June 6, 1946. After the war she moved to Mitchell to attend nursing school. It was there that she met her future husband, Dan Grosz. They were married on April 1, 1948 in Mitchell, SD. They were blessed with four children, Richard, Sandra, Timothy and Brian. The couple continued to live in Mitchell for the rest of their lives. Upon graduating from nursing school, Mary worked at Methodist Hospital until retiring in 1986. After retiring she enjoyed quilting on her own projects and also with a church group, gardening and travelling. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Sandra (Carroll) Twedt, Mitchell, SD, Timothy (Deanna) Grosz, Sturgis, SD, Brian (Nadine) Grosz, Mitchell, SD; daughter-in-law, Diana Grosz, Denver, CO; six grandchildren, Dawn, Jamie, Christina, Tom, Angie (Steve) and Jesse; seven great grandchildren, Isaac, Elijah, Natasha, Natalie, Ashlyn, Andrew and Colton; two brothers, Pete and Jim; two sisters, Dorothy and Phyllis. Mary was preceded in death by her son, Richard; her husband, Dan; and two brothers and one sister.
