Obituary

Mary Jane Ewing, age 76, of Mitchell died August 6, 2004 at Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday August 10, 2004 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at the American Legion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Mary Jane Graham was born February 20, 1928 in Cambridge, MA to James and Catherine (Cummings) Graham. She grew up and attended school in Cambridge, MA. Mary Jane graduated from Mt. Auburn School of Nursing in Cambridge. She entered the US Army Nurse Corps on April 13, 1951 and served as a nurse at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, CO. Mary Jane was united in marriage with Douglas Ewing in Denver, CO on August 29, 1952. She was honorably discharged on November 28, 1952 and the couple made their home in Delmont, SD. In 1959 they moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL where Mary Jane was employed as a nurse. The couple moved to Mitchell, SD in 1963. While in Mitchell, Mary Jane was employed at various nursing capacities. She retired in 1973. In her retirement Mary Jane enjoyed playing bridge, quilting, sewing, gardening and reading. She was a volunteer at St. Josephs Hospital and Brady Memorial. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was active in church functions. Mary Jane was also a member of the American Legion and the James Valley Community Center. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Douglas, Mitchell, four children, Patricia Ann Ewing, Mitchell, SD, Marianne Texley and her husband, Steven, Winona, MN, James Douglas Ewing , Mitchell, SD, Catherine Ewing, Rochester, MN; four grandchildren, Michelle Kulas, Lincoln, NE, Jennifer Texley, Minneapolis, MN, Meghan Texley, St. Paul, MN, Ryan Texley, Winona, MN; a brother, Daniel Graham, Georgetown, ME; Catherine White and her husband, George, Arlington, MA. She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, John and Lawrence; a nephew, James Graham; and her parents.
