Mary Erpenbach, 93, of Mitchell passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Edgewood Assisted Living in Mitchell. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Will Funeral Chapel; prayer service and rosary will begin at 6:30 PM.

Mary was born on November 23, 1929 to Mathias and Elizabeth (Koch) Schroeder in Alexandria, SD. She graduated from Alexandria High School. On November 15, 1949 she married Harold Erpenbach. After his passing she worked for the Alexandria School system, Jim Davies Law Office. While working there he suggested she run for Hanson County treasurer; she did and won; working there from 1984 until she retired in 2002.

She enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing cards, doing puzzles and reading. Mary was a member of St Mary of Mercy Catholic Altar Society, the Alexandria American Legion Auxiliary, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. One of her greatest pleasures in life was spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her daughters; Audrey Erpenbach, Kathy (Tom) Hoffman, Diane (Larry) Eich, brothers; John Schroeder, Don Schroeder, grandchildren; Shane (Janel) Hoffman, Ryan (Julie) Hoffman, Jenny Miles, Aaron (Melissa) Eich, and 11 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Jerry Erpenbach, siblings; Will (Mary) Schroeder, Edna (Hub) Weber, Agnes (Bill) Geppert, Aggie (Ralph) Weber, Art (Florence) Schroeder, Frannie Flowerree, and sister in-law Ila Schroeder.
