Mary Anne Anderson, age 73, of Mt. Vernon, died February 14, 2007 at Avera McKennan Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday at the United Methodist Church in Plankinton. Burial will be in the Mizpah Cemetery at Plankinton. Visitation will be from 3-5 PM Sunday at the church with rites by the Order of the Eastern Star at 4:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Mary Anne Hayes was born September 28, 1933 in Norfolk, Virginia, to William Henry Hayes & Bessie Pearl Gibson. She married William D. Anderson at the Epworth Methodist Church in Norfolk, Virginia, December 28, 1957. After Bills discharge they moved to Brookings while he finished school. His job as County Agent took them to Sisseton and Chamberlain, until 1969 when they decided to farm near Plankinton, SD. During the years on the farm and raising children, Mary Anne started and led the Aurora Country Siders 4-H club for 14 years. She served on the Aurora County Extension Board and County Fair board and represented a 9 state region on a work group in Washington, DC. She was president of the Aurora County 4-H Leaders association during the development and dedication of the Ag Building. Mary Anne was a life long member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having joined in 1960 and serving twice as Worthy Matron. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Plankinton and served as a Sunday school teacher for 18 years. At various times throughout the years, she served on the Pastor Parish committee, Daughters of Eve and Queen Esters Circles, superintendent of Sunday school, and past chair of the United Methodist Womens group. Mary Anne and Bill were blessed with the gift of music and would often perform duets at church as well as being members of the church choir. They also enjoyed being in the Aurora-Brule Choir for a number of years, performing throughout the region. During the years after Bills death, MaryAnne lived in Mt.Vernon and enjoyed being in the Sew-So Club and the 104 Club. She was a member of the Mitchell Garden Club and served as President of the local chapter as well as Recording Secretary at the state level. Mary Anne passed away on February 14, 2007 at 73 years of age. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, William D. Anderson, jr. She is survived by her sister Rena Peterson, Winterville, North Carolina and a brother William Henry Hayes, III of Hallieford, Virgina, and three children and their families: William D. Anderson, III wife Diane, Plankinton, and three daughters, Danielle, Amanda and Katherine; John (Lefty) Anderson wife Dori, Plankinton and three children, James Downey, Kristi, and Lori; Julie (Anderson) Baumberger husband Steve, Sioux Falls and two children Isaac and Isabella and her very special calico cat, Megan.
