Marvis Jean Godber, age 84, of Huron, SD (formerly of Letcher, SD) died Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Huron Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel.
Marvis Godber, daughter of Grant and Sylvia (Case) Tingle, was born June 2, 1932 in Rural Plankinton, SD. She attended country school south of Lane, SD. Marvis then attended school in Plankinton, SD and graduated from Letcher High School. After her schooling, Marvis lived in Mitchell and was employed at Educator Supply.
Marvis was united in marriage with Marvin Godber on September 5, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Letcher, SD. The couple lived on a farm in rural Letcher, SD. Marvis was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She later owned the Corner Café in Letcher from 1965 until the early 1980's. After her children were raised, she attended x-ray tech school and was employed with Dr. Hendrix. Marvis also worked as a substitute teacher in Letcher.
Marvis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served as church treasurer. She was an active lifetime member of the Letcher American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president. Marvis was a school board member and the secretary of the Elliott Township Board.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two children, Sandi (John) Schoenfelder, Huron, SD and Mark (Melissa) Godber, Tea, SD; grandchildren, Amber (Darrin) Krogman, White River, SD, Wade Schoenfelder, Pierre, SD, Bailey Schoenfelder, Minneapolis, MN, Curt (Christina) Schoenfelder, Bellingham, WA, Josh Schoenfelder, Bismarck, ND, Claire Godber, William Godber and Jesse Godber all of Tea, SD ; five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Godber on March 2, 2011; her parents; two sisters, Lorraine Kaus and Verlyn Steichen; and three brothers, Arlen "Bud", Ronald and Larry.
