Marvin Hohn, 91, of Sturgis (formerly) of Dimock, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Ft. Meade Veteran's Hospital in Sturgis, SD.  Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock, SD.  Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Marvin A. Hohn was born February 3, 1930 to Peter and Thresia (Tischler) Hohn in Parkston, SD.  His mother died when he was 16 years old and Marvin stepped up and helped care for his younger brother and two sisters.  Marvin joined the Army in 1952, serving during the Korean War.  He earned a good conduct medal as well as the Korean conflict medal.

After being honorably discharged from the military he married Mary A. Schoenfelder on September 12, 1955 at the Sts. Peter and Paul Church.  The couple lived in Dimock where Marvin worked for Blasius Trucking, and then moved on to maintenance at the Sts. Peter and Paul Church and School and after that worked in the Dimock Dairy for 37 years, holding the management position until retiring in 2000.   In 2014, Mary had a stroke and Marvin provided her care, allowing them to stay in their home till 2017 when they moved to the Brady Home in Mitchell, until her passing June 6, 2018.

Marvin was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Elks, VFW, American Legion and the Moose.  He enjoyed noisy weekend card games with friends in Dimock, fishing with his brothers & friends, carpentry and could fix almost anything.  He will be remembered for his sense of humor; even while suffering with lung cancer, he was able to joke and find humor in his situation.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children:  Cindy (Paul) Bruch, Sturgis, SD, Dan (Julia) Hohn, Nixa, MO, Ron Hohn, Mitchell, SD; 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and a sister; Delores Hohn, Parkston, SD

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, brothers Alvin and Jerome and sisters Marcella Jendersee and Mary Ann Fischer.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ethan American Legion Honor Flights.
