Martin G. Schoenfelder, 88, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Aurora Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD. A visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:30 PM Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Will Funeral Chapel. A prayer service will begin at 3:30 PM with Military Rites to follow. Martin specifically asked for no flowers at his funeral. The family requests memorials be directed to the American Legion.
Martin was born October 20, 1935 in Aurora County, SD to Fred and Suzanna (Blasius) Schoenfelder. He attended school in Plankinton. He farmed with his parents before joining the Army. During his time in service, he was stationed at Ladd AFB in Alaska. After the service he worked various jobs, including doing demolition work, by hand, before working for and eventually retiring from Jensen Grain Elevator. He married Delores Guindon in 2005, gaining a step daughter and step son.
He was an extremely hard worker, when demolishing buildings he removed every board, brick, and nail; often keeping the usable pieces for other projects. He also worked with the construction of the electrical high line between Kimball and Pukwana SD. Martin was a terrific listener; he preferred to let others talk than to talk himself. He had a tremendous sweet tooth and especially enjoyed ice cream.
Martin is survived by his step children, Pennie (Evan) Edinger, Skip (Betty) Guindon, sister, Evalyn Smith, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, wife, Delores, stepdaughter Candie Bathke, her husband, Randy, brothers; Clarence, Robert, Fred, Leonard, Bernard, Vern, Donald, Gene, John, sisters; Helen Bohr, Marie Parker and a granddaughter Lavonna Bathke.
