Marna U. Taylor, age 86, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Fulton, SD) died Sunday June 14, 2009 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery in Fulton, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Marna U. Licht, daughter of Arthur and Wanda (Erlichmann) Licht, was born in Fulton, SD. She grew up and received her schooling in Fulton graduating from Fulton High School in 1940. After her schooling, Marna was employed as a railroad agent and telegrapher in Magnolia, MN and later in Farmer, SD.

Marna was united in marriage with Chester Taylor in Yuma, AZ. After their marriage the couple lived in various places where Chester was working. They returned to Mitchell and Marna attended Dakota Wesleyan University graduating with a Degree in Art with a teaching credential. Marna taught at country schools for many years before teaching art at Litchfield and Longfellow Elementary Schools in Mitchell. In the mid 1970s the couple made their home in Fulton, SD. Marna continued to teach art in the elementary schools and later taught an art class in the Mitchell School District retiring in 1986. After her retirement she taught part-time in the Mitchell School District.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and in earlier years was active in Altar Guild.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sister, Lois (Glenn) Doc Soladay, Fulton, SD; two nieces, Mary (Dan) Wipf, Mitchell, SD, Elizabeth Soladay, Fulton, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester.

In lieu of flowers Marna has directed memorial may be sent to the Sunday School or Altar Guild of Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD or the Building Fund at St. Martins Lutheran Church in Alexandria, SD.
