Marlyce Hemmah, daughter of Carmen and Virginia Hemmah, was born September 4, 1963 in Veblen, S.D. Growing up as the youngest of four siblings only made Marlyce more determined to make her presence known to those around her. She always dared herself to keep up with the boys with her dress and pigtails intact, often riding a horse down a gravel road. A tomboy at heart, Marlyce spent most of her childhood playing outside on the farm chasing chickens, catching frogs or trapping gophers and taking their tails to town to sell, often riding her horse back with a Coca-Cola in hand.
Marlyce was united in marriage to Carl Knock on November 22, 1980 in Veblen, S.D. Together they traveled and lived in Montana, North Dakota, Kimball, S.D. and eventually, Mitchell, S.D., which became home where they raised their 3 children. They divorced in 2016.
Marlyce initially worked in retail at Kmart. She later built her career from the ground up at The Thunderbird Lodge, and with hard work and dedication, she became the hotel manager. Due to health, she eventually had to stop working all together. Marlyce cherished that chapter of her life, the memories, people and loved to tell stories of that time.
Being a part of everyone's life is what truly made her the happiest, especially the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Throughout her life she loved to go camping, fishing, swimming with her grandkids, playing cards, or beating one of us in a game of Scrabble, sewing, beading, crocheting or creating something beautiful, as she was a gifted crafter.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Tina (fiancé Mark Leach, Jr.) Hemmah, Mitchell, S.D., Carmen (Jeff) Landhuis, Sioux Falls, S.D., Carl "Buddy" Knock, Sioux Falls, S.D., six grandchildren; and twin great-grandchildren on the way; a sister, Melody (Calvin) Olson, Mitchell, S.D., and brothers Carmen (Brenda) Hemmah, Salem, S.D., and James (Barb) Hemmah, Mitchell, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carmen and Virginia Hemmah.
