Marlowe Laverne Medley, age 88, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Private family services will be held at a later date. Marlowe Laverne Medley, son of Edwin and Frances (Lambrechts) Medley, was born January 10, 1925 in Twin Brooks, SD. They lived at Twin Brooks and Milbank before moving to Woonsocket where Marlowe quite high school to enlist in the US Navy. He entered the US Navy on January 17, 1943 and served aboard the carrier USS Essex during WWII for three years. He was honorably discharged on January 20, 1946. Upon returning to Woonsocket, he worked at the Milwaukee Railroad. He married Geneva Eastman on December 9, 1946 in Rapid City, SD. The couple moved to Puyallup, WA where he worked for the Milwaukee and Union Pacific Railroads until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement the couple moved back to South Dakota and made their home in Mitchell. He belongs to the American Legion Post 18. Marlowe is survived by his daughter, Marlene Wise, Mitchell, SD; three grandchildren, Tammy Eakin, Georgia, Jason Wise, Mitchell, Kim Wise, Sioux Falls; five great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva; their son, Ronald; his parents; two sisters, Ileen Madsen and Garnetta Forbes and his brother Francis "Bud" Medley.
