Marlene F. Wermers, age 78, of Sioux Falls, SD (formerly of Mitchell, SD) died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at her home after an extended illness. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel – Mitchell, SD with a prayer service beginning at 7:00. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Marlene, daughter of Raphael and Lucile (Todhunter) Vermeulen, was born June 22, 1938 in Mitchell, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Letcher, SD and attended country school. Marlene graduated from Notre Dame Academy. After completing her education Marlene was employed at St. Joseph Hospital in the Records Department.
Robert and Marlene were united in marriage on November 12, 1960 in Letcher, SD. This past Saturday Bob and Marlene celebrated 56 years of marriage. The couple made their home in Mitchell, where Marlene was a homemaker and raised their children. They enjoyed camping and then living on Lake Mitchell where they spent endless hours on the pontoon entertaining family and friends. In 2007 they moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to family.
Her greatest pleasures were spending time with her children and grandchildren. Marlene was an avid shopper always looking for a good deal! Together Marlene and Bob enjoyed attending movies, going to casinos and wintering in Arizona.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Robert Wermers, Sioux Falls, SD; three children, Kathy (Paul) Luetjen, Sioux Falls, SD, Brad (Julie) Wermers, Brookings, SD, Kevin (Mickey) Wermers, Telluride, Co; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Lauren) Goldammer, Julia (Tyson) Bialas, Blake (Merissa) Luetjen, Spencer & Laura Wermers; nine great grandchildren, Olivia, Micah, Jonathan & Caleb Goldammer; Tucker & Drew Bialas; Michael, Stella & Gabe Luetjen; a sister, Patricia Hoffman, Mitchell, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raphael and Lucile; a sister, Joyce Smith; and an infant son, Brian.
