Mark Owen Nagel, 68, died peacefully from a heart attack while resting at the Commons Nursing Home in Enid, Oklahoma, on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Graceland Cemetery.
Born August 21, 1955, Mark grew up in Mitchell, South Dakota, graduating from Mitchell High School and Dakota Wesleyan University. He was a manager for Venture Stores in Moline, Illinois for several years and then became a stockbroker with A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. in Davenport, Iowa. In 1983 Mark moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and continued his work as a stockbroker.
He later moved to Denver where he was an agent for the Government Employee Insurance program. He also lived in Salt Lake City. In 1985 he moved back to Denver and joined the family business of claims adjusters and was certified as a Property Claims General Adjuster and Large Loss Specialist.
He returned to Mitchell, South Dakota, to care for his aging parents. While in Mitchell, he continued as a catastrophe insurance adjustor traveling the country, managing rental properties, and volunteering with the food ministry program at First United Methodist Church.
Later he moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he continued to work with catastrophe claims. Due to declining health, he retired early and was living in Enid, OK at The Commons at the time of his death. He was elected Chair and later Co-Chair of the resident council by his fellow residents
He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Messer of Centennial, Colorado, and his brother, Alan of Edmond, Oklahoma. Other survivors include his brother-in-law, Donald Messer, and sister-in-law, Debra Nagel, four nephews and two nieces, their spouses and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Wanita Nagel, and his brother, Ronald.
