Marjorie Davis age 97 of Maple Plain, MN (formerly of Mitchell) died Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Haven Homes of Maple Plain where she lived for the past two years. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Will Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Marjorie was born on June 21, 1919 in Park River, ND to parents Dr. E.E. and Frances Parkes. She later moved to Langford, SD where she graduated from high school in 1939 and went on to attend Huron College, Huron, SD with her twin sister, Mary. After college, she began a teaching career. While teaching in Carthage, SD, she met her future husband, Jerry Davis. They were married July 15, 1945 in Langford. She taught school for several years while raising her family. In the spring of 1964, the family moved to Mitchell where they resided for many years. Jerry owned and operated the Moonlight Bar in Mitchell. After Jerry's death in 1987, she moved to Eden Prairie, MN to be nearer to family.
Marjorie loved music and it was always an important part of her life. She played the piano, snare drum, violin and saxophone. She sang in choirs, directed school musicals, and played in the band.
She is survived by her children Linda Leck and husband Al, Danville, CA; Barb Dickey, Johnston, IA; and Pam Nelson and husband Rex, Eden Prairie, MN. Her large and loving family also included 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and daughter-in-law Colleen Davis, Overland Park, KS.
She was proceed in death by her husband, Jerry Davis, her parents, 4 siblings and children, Deanna Davino and Randy Davis.
